Cover Crop Field Day                            March 13, 2009

In 2008 The Ripley County Soil and Water Conservation District received funds from a Clean Water Indiana (CWI) grant to promote the use of cover crops in Ripley County.  The SWCD Board of Supervisors and staff pulled together conservation partners to come up with the idea of a cover crop plot and field day.  Finally, in September of 2008 the Ripley County SWCD’s plan came to life.  A Cover Crop Plot was planted on the farm of Bob Brewington, a lifetime supporter of the SWCD.  The Conservation Team came up with ten different blends to be planted in his 2 acre field.  The plot was planted by Bob Brewington using the Ripley County SWCD’s Truax Drill.  It is the goal of the partnership to show the different types, process, and benefits of cover crops on the land.
