This year the Purdue Extension Agency and Local FFA Chapters hosted Ag Day at the Ripley County Fair Grounds. Students from South Ripley, Jac-Cen-Del, and Milan learned about non-point vs. point source pollution
Ripley county 4-H Fair 2009
Thanks to everyone who visited the SWCD booth this year at the Ripley County 4-H Fair. This year at the fair the rainfall simulator was a hit with people as they took noted of the difference in soil loss between the no-till and conventional tillage sample. A special thanks to the Lawrence County SWCD for the use of their rainfall simulator. Face painting kept the kidscoming for more; many children all around the fair grounds proudly displayed their farm animals, insects, and more on their faces.

Poster Contest
There were 220 posters submitted to the annual poster contest “Dig It, The Secrets of Soil.” All schools in Ripley County were invited to participate. The overall winner was Jacob Christie, a 4 grader, from Batesville Intermediate School.

After rain, wind, and two tents later the week was a success for the Ripley County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Each year the Purdue Extension Agency puts on an Ag Day Presentation for Ripley County third graders, in 2008 the SWCD presented Migration Hopscotch to teach kids about wetlands and their importance.
